Apparently they did it to make Sony and Microsoft 'enhance their security' (though they just admitted to taking bribes to stop the attack and some of them wanted to do it to see what would happen and 'for the fun of it'). They said the attack was easy and that the Lizard Squad has no more than ten members. One of them said his little brother was upset he couldn't play Minecraft on Christmas Day but he just told him to go watch Nickelodeon instead.

It was the Lizard Squad. Here is their twitter; they stopped the attack after KimDotcom gave them free Mega vouchers. Another group emerged called the Finest Squad who located the source of the attacks and then posted the Lizard Squad's info online, since then they've been communicating with law enforcement and Sony. PlayStation is still offline because Sony haven't brought it back yet; the attacks ended yesterday. Scratch that; looks like the attacks have begun again.

Finest Squad doxxed lizard squad weeks ago. If they've bene communicating with law enforcement then they're not doing much, as I said they've had the info for days/weeks.
