The BBC have been dying to get rid of Clarkson for ages, he's only lasted this long because he's worth so much to the BBC in terms of hard cash. Clarkson makes the mistake of being funny and unpolitically correct you see, which for the Guardian-reading BBC is just about the worst thing you can do. He'd have had more chance at staying at the BBC by raping staff, little children (Jimmy Savile) or phoning up retired actors and saying the most appalling, unfunny things (Russell Brand and Johnny Woss).

The sooner the licence fee is abolished/an opt-out is introduced, the sooner the end will come for the organisation. And it's about time.

It won't be the end of Top Gear/Clarkson if the BBC scrap it/him, ITV will surely take it up because it gets so many viewers.

Nearly 80,000 now. I refreshed it 60 seconds later and it had another 250 supporters. The BBC wouldn't let a show like this go, especially as ITV would jump at the chance of being able to take it on instead.

It probably won't be on next week either. Normally investigations aren't quick are they? Seeing if it the incident happened recently.

As I mentioned yesterday, it's now being reported:

The BBC is expected to scrap the remainder of the current Top Gear TV series after allegations that presenter Jeremy Clarkson punched a producer.

The broadcaster said Clarkson, 54, had been suspended after what it called a "fracas" and has confirmed Sunday's episode of Top Gear will not be shown.

It is understood the two final episodes in the series will also be dropped.
