And Strong world D; thats some achievement..

"On its first weekend of showing, Strong World was seen 820,000 times on 188 screens throughout Japan, 103 of which had sold-out over the entire weekend, resulting in a per-screen average of 5,520,000 Japanese yen (approx. 62,200 United States dollars)—which is the record for a nationwide released film in Japan—and a gross revenue of ¥1,038,000,000 (approx. $11.7M), ¥553,000,000 (approx. $6.24M) on the first and ¥485,000,000 (approx. $5.47M) on the second day, thus topping both Ponyo, which took in ¥1,025,000,000 (approx. $11.55M), and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which made ¥990,000,000 (approx. $11.2M), on their first weekends of showing, as well as earning more than the ¥920,000,000 (approx. $11M) its predecessor, One Piece: Episode of Chopper + Fuyu ni Saku, Kiseki no Sakura, made in its whole time of showing."

Amd Sword of the stranger was very good, Girl who.. was good aswell. Waiting for the blu ray to come out along with summer wars. might pick up ponyo eventually aswell.

An achievement in terms of sales, not so much in terms of animation and content when you compare it to some of the other films I mentioned.

I saw Ponyo when it was out in theatres. I think it is easily one of Miyazaki's best films, although I am not much of a Ghibli fan - Satoshi Kon > Hayao Miyazaki.

I find Ghibli films fun to watch but nothing amazing like everyone makes them out to be. Also, if you've seen one Miyazaki film you've seen 'em all pretty much.

i've not watched much movies, just dramas, if they're any different? i almost always prefer korean dramas to their taiwanese/japanese versions but i'm just biased to koreans. i prefer manga to anime and movies/dramas anyway. which movie is that? & what else have you seen? i just watch the typical girly ones made from mangas i've read really..

But you haven't even posted in the thread so you don't count either.

Oldboy is my second favourite movie of all time. Its probably miles from the stuff you're used to watching though. I've seen too many Japanese films to mention, but my favourites are those by Takeshi Kitano and I am also a big fan of Akira Kurosawa. But again, they're probably miles different from what you watch. I am a fan of drama films, but despite my love for Japanese cinema and unless we're talking samurai dramas, I much prefer those in the English language. Perhaps because I can just connect with them better or because Japanese dramas tend to target female audiences a lot more than male audiences. Nevertheless, I really like Shall We Dansu? and Kurosawa made some masterpiece dramas in his time (Ikiru). Ping Pong is also one of my favourite movies of all time and while mainly a comedy I guess you could class it as a drama also.

No motivation to watch anime at the moment. Just watched all six Rocky movies and thought I'd rewatch Hajime No Ippo. 3 Episodes in and I've been reminded why this is my favourite series. Plus I'm starting gym soon, motivation levels are high.
