They were supposedly gathering information, seeing how far they could go without getting intercepted and I believe that they were timing our reflex times.

They woudn't of shot it down till it reached Uk airspace and all attempts at contacting had failed.

If they entered UK airspace, they would fly as close as possible until they turn away, using special formations they get in training. If that fails, they'd then move on to trying to direct the aircraft away from keypoints or land it. If it fails again, they would then ''shoot to stop''.

Sorry but have you even read the thread? In today's world, the UK will not shoot any plane unless a few reasons of course.
