Aha, me and my friends met a hardcore japanophile in college. He was just some insane anime fan that knew eveything about the medium. He also remains to this day the only person I have ever met who has actually seen Utawarerumono. We kind of ignored him after a while though because he got weird. Starting saying sayonara instead of goodbye and stuff like that.
I also met one of my dads friends sons the other week who was into anime and manga, he was pretty cool. Some super hardcore gamer though, he had like 30 consoles, Atari 2600, Commodore 64, all the retro stuff. We played Goldeneye 007 on N64 and had a total nerdgasm over the retro awesomeness. Didn't realise there still existed 16 year olds who played the classics.
The two friends who nearly match me in fandomness have pretty good tastes. One is madly in love with One Piece and Dragon Ball but still watches a lot of other things and the other is into more obscure, arty things but never lets a good actioner pass (although he is also a big fan of Naruto as well when it's good, but when it's bad he criticises it like there's no tomorrow lmao). I also share a deep love for Japanese films with the second friend. We're always recommending each other stuff. I got them both into so much anime though, haha. Gurren Lagann, Sword of the Stranger, Hajime no Ippo, etc. Good times.
