windows ME isnt really as good as they say it is...i dont even think it tops windows xp...
just tell the guy to reboot the computer do a disk defragment and disk clean-up and it should be almost as fast as it used to be...

Registry problems often cause crashes.
Research CCleaner (freeware registry cleaner) and if you feel its safe enough then download and use it. Personally my first scan found 437 problems in the registry which helped my computer ALOT
