You may also get the choice to do a GNVQ at college as your only choice, not sure how many schools do that though.

Don't worry! As long as you have the grades, you will probably get into the college/university course you want despite what subjects you took, though some are more desirable. Like if you wanted a job that was very science-based, if there was a choice like 3 seperate sciences like Biology, Chemistry and Physics, if you took that you would be more prefered for the course.

You should consider this, when chosing, in this order:

    - Do I enjoy it?
    - Am I good at it?
    - Is it where I want to go for my future?

    Hope this helps.
I made the mistake of them questions, I went and picked History when I don't need it. So I just don't go to it now.

If you think it's bad when you have to choose your year 9 option wait until you get into year 11. You'll have to choose if you want to go to college, which one, what subjects etc

My advice is to choose not only the subjects you like, but choose subjects that you excel in, even if they are boring. And don't choose a subject because you have a crush on your teacher!

Hey Hun - I am in year 9 this year and I am from Australia, Il give you a list of the compulsory subjects we have and ones that we can chose 2 from

    Compulsory Subjects
    - Maths
    - English
    - Science
    - Sport
    - Religeous Education
    - Humanites
    - Art
    - French OR Japanese

    * Electives/YR9 SUBJECTS - WE GOT TO CHOSE 2:
    - Sport Science (About Bones and the Body
    - French } MUST do one language! CANT do none - can do both
    - Japanese } MUST do one language! CANT do none - can do both
    - VCD (An Arty Subject
    - World Of Writing (About Books & Types of texts)
    - Food Technology (Cooking)
    - Drama
    - Music

Im doing Sport Science and Japanese but French is the one I chose to do out of the compulsory List.

I have some advice for you: When you come to chosing these subjects, pick things that YOU are interested in, some girls picked things because their friends did and they ARENT enjoying it! Pick something that is appealing to you and is something you ARE INTERESTED IN!

You are stuck with them the whole year, so be sure in what you pick Dont worry about picking things based on what you want to b when you're older - Yr 10 for us is when you can branch off and pick SPECIFIC and SPECIALIST subjects based on whta you want to do with you're future

= Good Luck & Pick What You This Is Best fOR You! =

You shouldn't really ask other people about this as it's your own choice. Don't do something because your mates doing it. People I know have done this and they don't like it.

    Nevertheless I picked:

    ICT - GNVQ/NVQ
ICT (College) - EDSL, New Clait +
    Music - Practical
    I'm extremely critical and mean..

To be honest, it doesn't matter what you take at GCSE as long as you can get the grades. English and Maths you generally need C or higher to get into most college courses, and if you're doing one or more sciences after high school then you'll need the Science grade too (but it usually doesn't matter if you do double award or triple). Other than that, your GCSE marks are generalised (as in, you need such-and-such amount of over C grades to do such-and-such course at college) so it really should just be what you enjoy. Your college A levels will decide on your career and/or uni entries if anything, but once you've done A levels no-one will ever look at GCSE results again.

    Yea,

Just Choose Something you like and If its Revelent to Any Future Career Even Better, i'm the next stage further , I've Just got my Provsional Placement In Collage! , I've Already got a Couple GCSE's from year 10, all i need is my GNVQ at Pass (exspected higher but lazy) and i'm in... when it comes round to it, your probebly get a sheet with it on

    For example i choose

    GNVQ - Single Option
    History
Business (Terrible Bleugh! Our teacher is just wrong)
    and Food Tech (Biigg Project)

You Usually HAVE to do Science Maths etc, but this year our yr 9's didn't have to do a technology... lucky ****, Nor a Langauge (German, French etc),

Overall , Your get a Sheet, your look at the Options and Your just no what you want to do

Bleugh, Also We Had to Do Statistics In Yr 10 , - hated everyminute of it, but thats usally the school does it or it doesn't

I didn't have to do a language, which is good from my point of view (good old lazy Englishman), but had to do RE/RS, which I hated at first but now I like it, so all's well. As said before, just pick what you like. I do Music, Graphics, Art and History, and I'm a perfectly happy chappy ^_^ Doesn't affect college at all, next year I'm doing Philosophy, Psychology, Gvmt Politics and something else I still need to choose... all I need is 5 C's or above out of my 11 exams, so basically I'm made. Watch out, next Prime Minister here
