Hmm, so here's a real life dilemma. My mate's English, his parents are 100% English, but he was born in Germany whilst they were on holiday there.

Does that make him German or English?

Guessing that he lives in England, he's English. He would have been a German National to start with but him living here and presumably having an English passport makes him English. In the same way, the hypothetical character in the original post of this thread would be English - it's all down to what your passport says.
