Forcing yourself not to put "smart" comments just makes you fake. It's a sad fact of life that some people just aren't likeable, no matter how they act. I for instance am arrogant and rude, but I'm still likeable because I'm just that sort of person. I'd say life has done you badly but that would mean that I'd have to admit that my own successes aren't my own doing, so nah I'll just say that it's all your fault.

If you really are changing, don't post it outloud looking for more attention. Just wait a while (I mean, it hasn't been long since your most recent .. comments). People will in time start to notice if you're being nice after everything cools down.

And honestly, I haven't seen much backlash against you. You should really consider yourself lucky.
