Unlucky, I get on with my stepdad pretty well really. Was thinking about it the other day and realised we don't really talk much, just let each other get on with whatever, but we can talk if one of us needs help with something or just is interested in the conversation going, and he puts his money into our upkeep, so I'm thankful for that. Still see my dad regularly so I know he's not trying to be a replacement, which also helps because I'm not looking for one.
Maybe you should try seeing this guy in that way - I'm sure if he's living with you he's making sacrifices to help with whatever money your upkeep is (not to mention a holiday to Cyprus), and if he's trying to make jokes he's probably trying to get on with you.
