    how about you try using an engine. like elysium. or search for them around. you'll find it REALLY easy to start, you could have a game working in 1/2months.

    Geez, give the guy a chance.

    I agree he should start by trying something small etc, but at least give him some helpful advice. If you think he should try to learn to code something like 'pong', then give him the URL to do so.

    So give up now, or try something like Pong.

    To be honest with you, I'm with awfy there...
    You could try to make a simpler game first.

    Don't just go like "I want to make a game like habbo/runescape", becouse;

    • 1. CSS/HTML/PHP Languages which you know, have nothing to do with the game, it could only help you create a frontend & backend sort of usersystem-site , so thats only for the site, not the game itself.

    • 2. Alot of people say "Sulake started like this too", Actually, they didn't. Sulake had big plans already in mind, and they had some more advantages then you have such as;
      -
      • a) They had/have a bigger staff team working on the game, not just kids, but actual adults who've studied for that exact goal.
      • b) They had a bigger, or just -a- budget to start. They had funds to put in the development, not only in advertising/buying software or whatever. But also being able to pay the staff they hired.

    Don't get me wrong, If you could pull it off on your own, I'll be the first to say I was wrong, but I'm just saying, it takes alot more preperation, funds, people to make a nice (succesful) game then you think.

    Anyway, it's nice you want to create a game, but don't just think too big yet.
    Or you could end up disappointed.

    He won't gain any respect from using a prebuilt system. The mmocc of today are above and beyond that. It won't cut it to compete.
