I think it could be deemed as 'pointless' because it's the most obvious answer and the user has probably considered it already. I think the reputation point is valid.

Reading through the thread I see your point and the rep is unfair .
If nick- has already deleted your post in the thread then you should PM him for further discussion but only after you posted in the thread.
