this may sound stupid, but i thought the 8800GT was made by nVidia?Good day!
I'm looking into getting a new graphics card because my ATI x1950 is a bit useless. I came across this card on ebuyer and wondered if this card is good? The reviews seem ok, but might aswell find out from the tech savvy people on here think so I can get an answer which won't confuse me
I only really need it for Command and Conquer 3, which runs ok on the ATI card, but not on full specs. Plus for some reason the ATI card refuses to work on full settings on something like the Sims 2, even though the card I had before that did the opposite.

Yes, your were right samsa, GeForce is apart of the card's name.
A graphics card won't be very different from different manufacturers. However, some may different slightly in clock speed and the more expensive ones offer long warrenties (10 years or lifetime) compared to 1 - 3 years cheaper manufacturers give you. Also, the bundled extras (some might give you a free game, extra cables) and the design on the card will differ depending on manufacturer..
GeForce is part of the card's name. Companys like PoV and EVGA get the chips from nVIDIA and put their own coolers on them and overclock them etc. So a company might buy a load of GeForce 8800GT chips and stick a load of coolers on them, overclock them a bit and call it "EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB KO GDDR3".

I have the XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog XXX 512MB
Cost me about £160.. and its been brilliant. I can't vouch for any other brands confidently but I was recommended this by a few other people who know thier stuff.
I like how this has turned into a conversation about different nVidia cards![]()
