There isn't really point getting GHDs, there great for long hair and w/e, but I only rly got mine for curling my hair aswell as straightnening it, so i doubt you'd wanna curl it :S lol so just get ceramic ones for about £30 yeh, and actually it isn't normal for the straightners to steam, you should have wet hair, and why would you gel your hair if your gonna straighten it?
piers from simple plan straightens with GHDs soooooooo if u have his hairstyle u should get it., kkk

You can get some good straightners for about £30. Also, no one is going to be that bothered that you straightened you hair.
