How long do you think it will be before we start seeing 100mbps boradband speeds?

Internet speeds are greatly limited at the moment because most of our internet comes through our phone cables. We'll only get 100mbs + when we switch to fibre.

There was tests and successful tests of 1GBPS across 1Km square about 3-4 months ago. So it's possible soon however costly. But I estimate about 3-4 years to be honest.

I know my school had a gigabit fibre line.



From what I've heard, 50mbit is gonna cost £47 a month. People in sweden pay £40 for 200mbit up and down.

For a user you wouldn't NEED 100mb/s or 200mb/s. Leave that to the servers to get the fast internet speeds. I've had the same speed internet now for 9 years, (speed is below). and it does the job just fine.

I think 10-20 mb/s (up and down) is more than enough to aim for, at least for now. Maybe once streaming videos is at a higher quality, we will need faster connections that that but for the moment I see no reason to have a 100 mb connection.

The UK and USA are surprisingly behind in regards to internet speeds I believe. I read the other day (on bbcnews I think) that using sewers to place the fibre optics is a cheaper method for the UK to go. Maybe if USA spent less on NASA and more on life back on earth, americans would appreciate their tax money a bit more .

The cost of having a 100mb/s line for a regular person is far too high for companies to consider right now unless they have a cheap method of setting it up and maintaining it.

Actually the uk is starting to offer speeds about 5-10x that of the US. Because they so heavily invested in ADSL connections and what not back in the late 90s and early 00s they are determined to get another good 5 years out of the technology. Around 50% of americans in new york state dont even have internet access .

The US is actually a fair bit ahead of the UK as far as the internet is concerned.
