    I don't know - someone recommended me to do it (I saw it on a MacWorld video) and I did and basically it just rips the DVD twice over the same file, it takes longer but there is a noticable difference in quality, and the file size is no bigger then it would be without using it.

    Wrong. The films you get off piratebay are mostly in .avi format which is much more compressed than mp4. When converted to mp4 anyway you will end up with a bigger file.
