Yeah i noticed it earlier, i just assumed my favicons have buggered up, they do that for me from time to timelooks interesting, I've always thought the old one looked a bit strange

I like it better.
The lowercase G just doesn't suite the actual logo and doesn't fit in with the colour theme they've always had.
Yh realised it yesterday, it might be a the "g" of a new more innovative logo![]()
shawn
I love it o_o
The lower "g" is already part of their logo if you haven't realised. It's the second G in their name. Also it's been changed to this as the lower case G represents the symbol which indentifies googol which Google is named after.
I think that's what it's all about.
There's actually a reason why it's now a lowercase 'G'.
'g' represents 10 to the power of 100 (googol), that's approximately the number of pages Google has to index. There's a little bit of maths and Greek behind the new logo![]()

Uh..this is a theory too but it's incorrect according to Google.
I don't think this is correct, not according to what I've found below.
Official story from Google INC:
Source: http://searchengineland.com/080603-132251.php"We recognized there was a need for a Google icon that would better work across multiple applications including web, mobile and client applications. We felt the small 'g' had many of the characteristics that best represent our brand: it's simple, playful, and unique. We will be looking to improve and enhance this icon as we move forward."
Those who dislike this new icon, may revert back to the old one by clicking here.
I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.
