straighteners give you better curls than curling tongs & it's quicker.
if you have trouble figuring out how to curl with straighteners, there's loads of videos on youtube which show you.

I could only recommened GHD's as I have seen them used on my friends.

Yeah use GHD's people who say they're crap are just jealous
If you can't afford or just dont want GhD's then make sure they're ceramic plates and not metal.
