Yes but swimming isn't specific to his sport?

When Is he going to swim in a football match?

Yes swimming will prehaps make him a better swimmer and help him improve his muscular endurance but he needs to work on his cardiovascular fitness more.

    Just as an example,
My freind swims for his country and struggles to run for 3km at a mid paced jog working at about 65% of his maximum heart rate.

So yeah swimming is a completely different excersise than swimming so try and do some research before you give people the wrong information

I thought that maybe he could swim in a swimming pool, possibly while not playing football. Maybe you didn't gather all that.
Swimming improves cardiovascular fitness. My friend is easily one of the best cross country runners for his age group in glasgow atm and he got to the stage he's at now by swimming. He swam a lot before and it improved his staminda immensly. :S

alright pal, i'm a fitness instructor if you want my opinion go to a field and remember to wear a watch. to improve on your fitness and speed try running for 1 min and jogging for bout 2 mins continue to do this for bout 10mins. over the following weeks gradually lower the jogging time until you are pretty much running and this new intense pace. you will see great improvenments.
