And no, my passport ran out October 2008. But because I'm an adult, I have to get "First Adult" passport.

It's just the person who wrote everything's bad distinction. They mean you need an interview if you're getting your first passport ever (i.e. never had a child one) as an adult.

I know it's awful. To get mine updated it'll cost me about 100 quid, but I look nothing like what I do in my picture... I have to wait till May 2010 to get it for free, and most likely I'll be refused onto planes later this year.

Did you lose your passport?

You won't get refused, they are not stupid and can tell if it is you or not. Regardless of how different you look.
