With it already being a relatively cheap car it won't drop as much in value as a more expensive car. So buying it new was probably the right thing to do. He might lose a few grand but at least he knows that his car has never had any problems and is immaculate.

admittedly it is a nice car and will be reliable, but i would never buy new. i got my car second hand with full vw service history with 1 owner. no dints, scratches or paint swirls (although there is one small dint in the boot, somehow?) reliable as anything, just killed the sump and put a hole in the cat from being too low
