    No they're not. They're in .m4a or .m4p with the option to convert to .ACC

    You can convert them from .m4a or .m4p to .mp3 from within iTunes so he's pretty much right.

    Change this setting (don't know why it's under CD import) and then you can right click > Convert to AAC and it does it to MP3 instead:
