I'm not paying to use Usenet. Wouldn't it be pretty easy to get caught:eusa_wall?

No, SSL encryption and peering with networks with carrier neutral status.

I'll be honest I haven't looked into Usenet very much, not after I found out you have to pay for server access.

Is there any cheap server access? The cheapest I've seen is $10 a month.

And how is availability of usenet files compared to torrents?

If it's on Usenet and less than 365 days old it'll be there, with parity and full speed all day every day, the only limit is you.

All the major Usenet providers mirror with each other, so you're guaranteed at least 99% completion (every post on Usenet combined).

    I'd go with this: http://www.news.astraweb.com/specials/kleverig-11.html

It's what I use and it's fabulous in every way.

    Ninja edit:
If you're on about availability as in files released then you want Usenet, everything but music has a good standing on Usenet, not sure why music is flaky but there is usually good stuff there. Films, Games, Programs all go to Usenet before torrents.

Topsites > Usenet (sometimes private trackers) > Private trackers > Public trackers

I say it goes on the more secluded private trackers before usenet more times than it hits usenet first these says. We are talking minutes or even seconds though. Thing with usenet is it's available at high speed as soon as it's on there, with torrents it's going to be a few minutes (depending on size) before the swarm gets going for it to be at high speed. I don't grab scene stuff usually anyway, I go for internal encodes of stuff that's out a few hours to a day later. What's a few hours when you can get noticeably better quality for the same file size? Usenet only has scene releases right?
