Nope that's wrong, the original iPhone was essentially version '1G' (First generation). Not at any point has it been called 2G and if your referring to the network being 2G it was actually on 2.75G (EDGE). Network generations and iPhone generations are different things, it's just Apple did a bad combination of them both in their naming systems.

If someone refers to the iPhone 2G, they're usually referring to the second generation iPhone which is the iPhone 3G.

That really doesn't add any value as it can be updated for free?

I wasnt aware of that, from what i know is if your running the old iPhone software you have to pay for the updates - Unless your doing it illegally, which may put some people off.

The first iPhone was always referred to as the 2G one, as it was to do with the network it used. The 3G one was because it used a 3G network, and the 3GS.... Thats just 3G with Speed added on, because simply its better? I might be wrong on the 3GS.

The first iPhone is the first generation iPhone, however its always referred to as the iPhone 2G to differentiate between the two versions. Really, whoever hasn't heard it being called the 2G has been living under a rock.

In this case, when you search Wikipedia and it says 'original', that is wrong. People refer to it more as 2G, I swear even Apple have done that.

EDIT: God this is going so offtopic. I can't buy it Ost, I'm on contract with Orange

Don't try and act smart if you don't know what you are on about. Google "iPhone 2g" and what do you come up with?

Article 1: Apple iPhone 2G (1st generation) and 3G (second generation) compared
    Article 2: eBay.co.uk guides - iPhone 2G vs 3G
    etc.

You can't comment, you started it by being so pedantic and providing false information.

What do you mean try and act smart? If I made a post whether the answer is right or wrong, it doesn't mean I'm trying to act smart what the hell are you on about. I was replying to his post with what I think is the answer, it does not mean I'm trying to be smart so please get off my case with that one.

It is mostly down to opinion because there is no definitive 'iPhone 2G', it is incorrect to call it the iPhone 2G as it can mean iPhone or iPhone 3G, it's your own interpretation. Hence why I worded my post according and said 'generally' rather than "DAMN RIGHT IT ******* MEANS IPHONE 3G", generally is not a definitive word, from my experiences on this forum and two more, whenever someone has said iPhone 2G they've been referring to iPhone 3G.

The original iPhone supports the EDGE network which is actually 2.75G
iPhone 3G supports the UMTS network is commonly known as 3G
And the iPhone 3GS fully supports the HSDPA network (Unlike it's predecessor) which is also known as 3.5G

Oh and Alkaz you were the one who said "He must mean 3G, common sense much?", your the one who expects all of this as common sense, if we wish to debate it we can, frankly you sparked the debate anyway and all this 'Get a life' or 'Close the forum' are signs of a desperate forum member stuck in an argument.
