The Cold War wasn't a war though, it was just a war of words and threats.

Call of Duty 4 is very much to do with the Cold War, the conflict in Chernobyl particularly, and the rest of it is to do with the aftermath of the break-up of the Soviet Union.

I think the Vietnam war would be interesting, it's been the only "real" war after WWII and sadly games have pretty much avoided it.

God damn, I learned that in History >.<, how could I forget? "It's called the cold war because it never get started, hence it going cold"

Thanks for reminding me Jordy :eusa_wall

I think they should just move away from the whole pre-1950's era and just make Call Of Duty: Hippie Beatdown or something. Now that, that would be awesome.

Tbh they could get out of war quite easy because the call of duty could be anything. I could say going for a poop is the call of duty. I wouldnt mind a future one as long as its not too future, like WW and ray gun in nazi zombies. But no.

Correct me for saying this, but didn't the Cold War have a little bit of military skirmishes and stand offs? The Cuban Missile Crisis for one, I'm pretty sure the US bombed the Russian boats carrying the nukes. There was also a Korean war in which US and Russian soldiers fought against one and the other.

Oh yeah and the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan.

It'd be interesting to see those little parts of history that everybody ignores, and see how these events really do relate to the world of today.

Yeah the Cold War was mostly just an arms race and included the space race. There were a few stand-offs and "Proxy Wars". The biggest "stand-off" as such was the Cuban Missile Crisis (Closest we've been to nuclear war), the Cubans/Soviets shot down a US Spy Plane but that's it in terms of conflict.

Proxy Wars were wars where either the Soviets or Americans fought indirectly by providing money, resources or military personnel. However the Americans and Soviets never engaged each other as such.

I didn't know about it being called the Cold War because it went Cold lol, certainly makes sense.

Ah gotcha, would make an interesting bit of play-doh (so to speak) for the COD franchise to mould into something. If Treyarch is using Cold War era music, maybe that means that they're making an alternative timeline of the Cold War or something. Maybe 're-creating' the soviet invasion of the US or vice versa.

Would make an interesting change for the franchise, although, my money is on Vietnam. COD series could do so much justice to it.

    I could imagine it now:

Call of Duty: The Cold War

Soap McBaby Tavish is in an under ground nuclear bunker, he is on high alert to defuse a nuke. He spends his entire time on high alert, he is sent off to get a coffee, then the game ends because nothing else happened in the cold war. All the goodies to go with the game ammounted to £10k or something and the game takes 50 hours to complete, 49 hours and 50 minutes is just cut scenes.

Hmm, I could imagine my one tbh.

    Call of Duty: Hippie Era

Hippies are everywhere, smoking mass amounts of marijuana, having orgies in fields and walking around nude. "What we need you to do Lance 'Masculiman' Steven's is infiltrate the rock concert of Woodstock '69, pass through the mass crowds of Hippies undetected, find the main power supply and exit. Later once your flare has been dropped, an airstrike will be designated on the flares location killing thousands of horrible hippies. Good luck". IGN Rates it 9/10 - "By far the most compelling, colourful and interesting CoD yet! Game rates it 10/10 "When you enter the crowd in disguise and the marijuana effects have your display blur, and your health bar goes down because you have the munchies is just brilliant attention to detail". This fall, prepare, to fight, the HIPPIES!

    Now that I could imagine.
