I don't really like to think of the Lord of the Rings films as seperate entities, plus the entire trilogy would just take up my top three anyway. Might as well count them as one so I can actually fit other films on my list.

Although I would put the Lord of the Rings films in the following order.

    1. The Fellowship of the Ring
    2. The Return of the King
    3. The Two Towers

The Fellowship of the Ring to me was extremely boring. It's just exposition, exposition, exposition that builds up a concluding five-minute battle. I was really put off by it. Regardless, the two sequels are very good.

I absolutely love the first film and have no problem with the exposition. It's quite refreshing seeing as how the other two films are more about the battles. The first film did a fantastic job of introducing the audience to the world of middle earth and even though a lot of it was exposition (although not as much as you make it out to be) I personally don't think the film has any dull points. I was always interested in what was happening and looking forward to what would happen next. I also think The Fellowship of the Ring has some of the best cinematography of the trilogy. It's shot so beautifully. In my opinion it has the best soundtrack out of the three films as well, and some of the best scenes and characterization. I don't think I'll ever love a film more than The Fellowship of the Ring.

Yes, it is indeed all that you say. Perhaps it is because I saw it after it had hit DVD so I had heard a lot about it that gave me a picture of fantastic battles, etc, which of course the sequels handle well. I had never read the books.

I know what Adam's saying but also entirely agree with Neversoft. I still remember how when it ended, I was sitting in the cinema just in awe and suspense, as if waiting for the next one to roll on . Don't think I've ever anticipated a sequel more than The Two Towers. Actually it feels horrible to call it a sequel .

In fact I've just realised something; The Lord Of The Rings does an even better job of putting you into the Shire and Mordor than Avatar does with Pandora!

Probably because they're not CGI and actually there. Plus Pandora was pretty generic. That wasn't the first time I've seen plants that light up and floating mountains in a film.

Yeah but so was the Shire, Mordor and the woods etc in between . The houses in the Shire were pretty unusual but that's about it. Still, that being said plus the fact we're comparing it to something in 3D, it is clearly amazing.

Just because you didn't like Avatar it doesn't mean you need to bring it up in every thread in the film section. If you want to complain about it then go to the Avatar thread and quit ruining this one.
