Filtering on the forum

As you have highlighted, creates problems as to who has the filter on and who doesn't which would result in unfair moderation, which would result in more complaints. People successfully vent their anger or display humour in their posts now without swearing, why fix something that's not broken?

But they do swear - it's just filtered.

I don't really care in the end if it remains filtered or not. I just think that it's such a simple change that it could be worth doing.

Do you mean in VB you can have a filter switch? I did not think that was possible but then I haven't been involved much in acp for a while.

No, it would be added manually but it's a simple code change.

Yeah, but it only needs to be edited if its directed at another user.

It wouldn't be worth doing at all, as Jake has said, it would make the forum look ugly, give a bad impression, create moderating issues and just generally be a nuisance.

Exactly, It's going to be abused if it's implemented so there is little point in doing it so people can 'vent anger'.

I don't see a reason why people need to swear on the forums, I can see it for words such as "FML" but general swearing isn't really what we want on the forum. Yes people may swear in real life but I know for one thing my parent's don't like me using certain words, they are fine with the odd word or so now due to my age. There is no actual need.

More work for our already busy scripting team for a feature that would create more problems than it would solve, if it would actually solve any.

Hacks are pretty much frowned upon because of the security issues and in any event Matt has spoken.

So why not make the filter more lenient?


Short terms such as:
Contains swearing

Show Hide

F S
F F S
B!tch

and a few others, I still think the filter option should be installed but if not I think some of the filter words need to be relaxed a little.

It's a silly reason though as a mod like this would cause 0 security issues unless you suck at PHP.
