I edited those threads in tech asking nicely for users to respond to the threads with reasons why. I think it'd be good to encourage - but not enforce - users who create these threads to place it their OP "explain why". I know Samsta has started doing this lately and it's generating a better discussion

A mod can always edit a thread to say state reasons for opinions if they believe the thread is simple turning into a one-word answer post count bumping spree.

I'm not going to stop people making such threads because I think it's a silly idea, to create a sub forum for them individually - I believe the sub forum woul dbe quite inactive and as we like to keep as minimal forums as possible, I don't think this is a plausible idea.
This might sound extreme but hear me out What about limiting the amount of threads a member can create in a single forum over a specified period of time? For example no more than 3 threads in an hour in the same forum. Think about it - how often have you ever seen someone post more than a few threads in quick succession which *haven't* been the short effortless type? It's probably almost never. A rule like this may have influenced a member to make one thread about search engines, browsers and emails rather than three separate ones for let's face it, an extra pip on the post count.

Yeah but like I said, when does anyone post more than a few threads in the same place which ALL contain good quality discussion topics? I've just been doing it now but I don't remember the last time I saw it done...

Never lol. I mean I can see why Jake would HATE this rule, as his post count comes from these 'effortless' threads.

But many of them are annoying UNLESS people are explaining why.

Perhaps thread creators have to post 'Explain Why' - that way if people DON'T explain then surely it would be pointless posting.

I'm not gonna restrict how many threads a member can make in a certain time - that's a tad ridiculous. Here I am talking about being liberal and lenient and now there's suggestions to tell members how many threads they can post and where

Well there needs to be something to stop people taking the piss because it just makes the forum look like a dump
