As EDL supporters stepped off coaches they began hurling abuse at the locals who had gathered to protest against them, chanting "Allah - paedophile", "We want our country back" and "We love the floods", in a reference to the destruction in Pakistan, from where many of Bradford's Muslim community originates.

I think it's clear to all that they were not protesting against islamic extremism.

They have many different things they do not like, islamic extremists being amongst them. This protest wasn't really strictly against islamic extremism, against all kinds of things really as you have discovered.

Well what a fail of a protest, spoiled by the few as per usual. There were only 5 arrests and one police officer injured in a "scuffle" so he probably got pushed to the ground or something but if they want to get rid of their hooligan like reputation then they should of stopped the violence, when are people going to start realising that violence isn't going to help in protests... Laughing at all the floods in pakistan is a bit out of order to, as well as being uncalled for it is also a bit pointless because I thought they were against the pakistanis who come to live in england, why should the pakistanis in pakistan be brought into it? Already enough jokes about the flooding around on facebook, especially "There is already an aid song out for the flooding in pakistan to raise money, it's called Raindrops keep falling on Ahmed". Suppose it did make me smile with it being a clever use of pun but it's a bit uncalled for really...

Well apparently this particular protest was supposed to be against islamic extremism specifically, and from what they were shouting its obvious it was not. They showed their true colours, as most racists eventually do, you can't hide behind polital correctness forever. People such as those disgust me.

I agree that they were wrong to stop it as we all have (are supposed to have anyway) freedom of speech.
Have you seen the documentary on them? They're just a bunch of scumbags who sing football songs and go out looking for trouble. They are racist.

Not actually that much ignorance in this thread which is surprising because anything to do with the EDL usually attracts that sort.
