Well I read they decided to not release it in 3D because they felt they were unable to complete the transition to the standard they would have liked. Personally I'm glad they've decided to release it in 2D for the following reasons.
1. They could have decided to delay the film for 6 months whilst the finished the transition into 3D
2. They could have released it in 3D as it is now meaning a lot of people would have paid to see it in 3D and would have come out dispointed.
3. I've been to see films there were intended to be 3D (such as Christmas Carol, Avatar etc) and they were fantastic because they were created with 3D in mind.
4. I then go and see films like Toy Story 3 which I wish I just saw in 2D because the actual film was great but I couldn't help but feel dispointed as it was barely 3D and I felt it had 'ZOMGZ 3D' slapped on the front of it just because 3D is the 'in' thing at the moment.
