    I was in this position a few months back. I asked her out after getting myself some self-confidence and she said no, for the simple reason she doesn't feel ready for a boyfriend. We're still quite good friends and our friendship wasn't harmed by it so I'd say go for it, if she says no, ask for a reason.

    At 14 you still have feelings, and as long as the girl is around the same age I don't see it as an issue. So go for it pal.

    As for her brother, teens at that age are always bigging themselves up and trying to be rocky balboa, but don't worry, everyone has a soft side. If you show him you care, you will be fine!
