It's not a short-term fix, it took me between 12-18 months to get referred to the top of the "acne chain" (dermatology department at a hospital), the only step remaining is surgery but they're pretty certain the stuff I'm on at the moment will sort it.

I've tried about 5 different drugs but none have got me anywhere, but you never know you might be lucky and one works straight away. I have to take the current drug for about 4-6 months and it'll most probably work but it comes with a load of side effects cause it's so powerful. Very dry skin, constant chapped lips, depression, sickness and nose bleeds are all common and I've experienced most as of recent so they're rather reluctant to put people on the drug. Also have to take blood tests once a month.

I always use Clearasil, and it gets rid of my spots within a week.

Jordy, are you using Roaccutane? They sound very similar side effects to what I had on it, except not so much sickness and nose bleeds.

I got spots through my family dna so I was pretty stuffed, nothing would work in terms of usual stuff, i got put on a few medical things for a good 2 years until finally they referred me to a dermatologist who gave me roaccutane. Worst 6 months of my life taking it, the side effects were so bloody horrible & it didn't help being in year 10 and getting the **** ripped out of me for having flaky skin (i'm talking everywhere, was like a snake :X). Now my face is so clear though, I'm glad I stuck it out cuz my face is noticeably clearer, rarely get even one spot.

It's not all about your diet. It also happens with most peope when you start puberty. Average age is 14 - 18.

I was about to say no I use Isotretinoin but I've googled it, and they're the same thing so yes I am

I've only been on it a month or two and the mood swings are particularly bad at the moment and I can't say I'm very encouraged by what you've said Pyroka but at least it works :L

I'm also not too pleased how you're not allowed to excessively drink whilst on the drug but so far I seem to be okay.

I never drank alcohol before I hit 18 so I was lucky there aha.

Nah I can't encourage you, it's definitely the hardest experience & it tested me as a person hugely, there were times where i wish it would just end but i'm happy i stuck in :]

Hmm 3 weeks back I was getting somewhat depressed and considered lowering the amount I take but I managed to resist. I'm at the stage where the drug makes the acne even worse temporarily so I'm taking as much as I'm allowed and it'll be over quicker at least. Taking less amounts of it will just prolong treatment.

Exactly yeah, just get it done and over with, you'll love the results even if they aren't instant. You'll have to wait at least a year or two to see the FULL effect that it's had on your skin, and it's wonderful
