so now you're changing him from being mentally ill to just partaking in something self-destructive? can't really compare but isn't endangering your life just the same as smoking/drinking/bad diets etc. are they mentally ill too? cmon do you see my point or are you too blinded by your judgement on transexuals because that's the feel i'm getting from you.

I think there's a big difference between having a drink/smoke and cutting your genitals off without anasetic and by yourself, don't you? and yes I do think to do something like this to yourself you need to have some serious deep mental issues, which in this case have led him to do something self-destructive. Either way, he acted on them when he did not need to - thus putting his own life in danger.

So either way, mental issues or not - still reckless, crazy & stupid.

no, it's exactly the same except cutting your genitals off is a much quicker process. people cut themselves with knives, they don't need mental help they need support just like this guy. like i said, he was so desperate "to undergo gender realignment surgery" that he just did it. having to wait years on a list for something you've probably wanted for most your life is gonna have some sort of impact on you. people just get frustrated and do things without thinking, it doesn't make them mentally ill >.< none of us can judge until we know and obviously he doesn't have that much control over his feelings. he didn't do it for the sheer pain or whatever, he did it because he wants to be a woman. it's different to WANTING to harm yourself, much like the self-destructive habits such as smoking/drinking/bad diets that i already said.

I sorta agree with you. To say something is a mental disorder would assume you'd have an objective understanding of what order is but I believe that 'reality' and 'disorders' are just socially constructed.

Despite that, if he's cutting off his testicles, he does need help. I think if we relate it to the other thread, Undertaker argued that it is just a thought that he wants to be a woman when in reality he is a man and will always be a man (unless I misunderstood). However, this case proves that thought and reality are not seperate, they're connected. What you think shapes your reality.
