For once i actually agree with shaz. . . i think its more better to donate to the smaller charities instead of just going for the ones that are well known and everyone donates to. . so my choice is a little closer to home well for me

With everyone saying MakeAWish I thought we couldn't donate to them again as we did it last year?

Although this is a really good charity and does aim to help people, personally I would prefer my money to go towards keeping someone alive or helping someone live - like perfectly happy for terminally ill children to have money given towards them to help them live a comfortable good life - but I would rather not have my money go towards something giving anyone something they don't necessarily need. I don't want to sound too harsh, as the charity aims to give people dreams - but that is my stance on it

Sadly I categorically object to this. Many members would not really want their money going towards a country they don't even live in - especially when it isn't poverty stricken or something - and not many people come from NI on here.

People need water to live and is a basic commodity we take for granted in the first world. Millions of people around the globe need clean, safe drinking water yet don't have access to it, Charity Water provides clean drinking water out in third world countries to help sustain basic human life.
Totally would go for this. Especially after a World Development lesson based around water today, even many first world countries face problems with water now - never mind those in the third world. As Tom rightly said you need drinking water, but you also need water to clean (after all, hygiene is a basic human need)m water crops and other things.

Any water charity for me, as long as they aim to supply clean water to those who really need it.

    So either:

    Charity Water
    or
    Help for Heroes

Strongly recommend it, was a popular choice last year as well.
    I agree with this

Each shelter box can help so many people, and as a forum I'm sure we can raise enough for one, possibly two, shelter boxes

My opinion is so much more important so I'm making it larger and bolding it.

In all seriousness we should avoid mainstream, I like the idea of a smaller charity but nobody wants one because:

    a) They've never heard of it probably
    b) It's not nearby or something

But we can at least avoid cancer research because they get TOO MUCH funding.

Totally agree with this. We donate to GOSH, Cancer Research, Make A Wish and Help for Heroes constantly.

    Hence, Charity: Water

This since my brother has it and wasn't recognised until he totally gave up on his education. He was always told off for having messy hand writing (due to poor connection between the signals from his brain to his hands) to the point that he would misbehave as he couldn't get the teachers to put a nice comment his way, this is the case for many of people with dyspraxia and making people more aware of it is what this charity does.
Also I think its all well and good that there are charity's like cancer research, GOSH and Make a wish foundation but all them charity's get a lot of attention and smaller charity's like the one I have quoted above get hardly any recognition so are struggling. So either the Dyspraxia charity or another smaller charity will be a good choice for me
