Regardless if people want them to or not.
Sounds like they may release an iPod Touch with good space then. My iPod 60gb is old, and doesn't sadly have the search feature which is quite annoying (Thought Apple would have at least put it out in a software update). I rarely use my iPod unless I'm travelling which is usually once a year for holidays, but if I'm away to visit someone on the train it comes in handy. If they released a touch with space I probably wouldn't rush out to get it but I would save up for it. I think its long overdue to be honest.

The problem is fitting it in, and if you barely use your iPod anyway why do you need 160gb of space?

It comes in handy when I need it. I'm sure they could fit at least more space in. The thing is if I go on holiday for lets say 2 weeks, I don't have my computer so I like to have at least the majority of music and I couldn't fit that on the current touch iPod's.

I could understand if they had problems getting the space into the touch versions but if that did happen, then surely the answer would be to keep the classic models. I know some people prefer the overall look over features and so on but if I'd choose a big bulky iPod if I had to for the space over a smaller one.

The thing is, barely anyone (in normal circumstances) needs over 64gb - you are in a minority, why make a product barely anyone wants/needs (especially when the price will be extorniate).

I doubt they would remove the Classics until they can get the space on a Touch though.

There are lots of DJ's today that use digital stuff instead of physical CD's and LP's so having a backup on their iPod handy. I agree that they probably wont remove the classic unless they launch a Touch with lots of space.

Another thing I might add is now iTunes are selling movies and TV shows and stuff. While most people wont watch them on their iPod it is handy to have - I've watched films on my iPod while travelling before e.g. flying. The problem is that films take up a lot of space and if they do want to make more film sales they'll probably need to bring in a bigger model to allow both a large number of audio files and films.

Lets put this in to perspective.

How many DJ's are there with over 16,000 songs, who would listen to those songs thereselves on an iPod? Now think about how many people do not have 16,000 songs. Now you mentioned movies. Let's say the movie is 1.5gb (basing it on HP and the Deathly Hallows part 1) - and now lets assume that the person likes movies, is going on a long flight so has - I don't know - 10 movies. That leaves you with 49GB for music - leaving you space for about 12,250 songs - even that is more than enough for most people!

I actually didn't know what space the current ones offered sorry ha as when they originally came out they didn't have a 64 gb one, so I just kept my 60gb iPod. 60 gb is a decent size, but I still think they'll keep the classics till they can offer the space. Some people will want the space so if they can sell it they probably will try.

Just under 20 minutes until the event is due to begin.
MacRumors.com will provide a live feed, I used the same site when the iPad event took place earlier this year .
