tom is my gay friend.... lmao cause he is the only one i text and apparently if i text a boy we are ******* so i'm like "it's fine he's more likely to fancy your boyfriend". sorry tom........

it's weird cause i've met quite a few people on facebook that i have mutual friends with then i've met up with them irl. it's not much different to me than meeting people that i've known for a while on habbo/tumblr. i met someone off habbo when i was 14 but i said he was from cadets lol cause he didn't live far away. mum didn't mind me going to a meet up last year with people i'd only known for a few months from tumblr but i think that was cause it was in town, don't think she'd be too pleased with me going out of scotland or even a few hours away just to meet someone from the internet. if im talking to someone on skype i just say they're people from the internet n she doesn't question it but when i was younger i wasn't allowed to talk to anyone and SHE BLOCKED THE AOL CHAT ROOMS. I ******* LOVED THOSE CHAT ROOMS.

Nope, can't say they have expressed any concerns with who I talk to on the internet. My mum has spoken to a few people on skype before so yeah.

LOL why would a pedophile be interested in a 19 year old? :L

My parents don't care. I'm 20 so it's not like a pedophile will "groom" me or anything, LOL. I used to talk to this girl Tara online a lot, I told my dad about her and he even said he would drive me up to her house if I wanted to see her.

Has anyone seen Hard Candy? This thread reminded me of it

I used to Skype with my English Habbo friends but I would get teased for my accent. Still, it was all in good fun. When I still lived at home my mum would certainly be questioning who I was speaking to when I was a lot younger (maybe fifteen or sixteen) but now it's really none of her business as I am twenty-one.

My mum is a bit. Jazz and Jas and everyone can vouch for it haha. When I'm on skype with them she used to be like who are you talking to and I'd say friends haha and she'd say which friends, argh.

I am not really sure, I think they are more concerned when I dated someone online, as we had a fiasco where my sister dated someone and he put a virus in her laptop and hacked her so they are pretty narked that way. However, they didn't seem too mad when I met someone online and didn't tell them even though my Mum had sussed I had a boyfriend and I met him blah blah. My Dad is more fussed than my Mum, my Mum would rather come upto the webcam or skype and just look and then burst into song trying to embarrass me.

It's just a myth these days that the internet is full of pedophiles. I can understand people being paranoid about that kind of thing back in 2004, but if anyone is still banging on about it these days they clearly don't use the internet much. Sure, there are some dodgy fellows, probably a lot in fact, but most of the people you are going to meet or speak to on the internet are going to be genuine, ordinary people.

My parents have never really asked or delved into what I do online. Even when I played Habbo and RuneScape back in the day, they asked hardly anything about them. They knew communication with others was a huge part of the game(s), but I think their mentality was probably something like "well my child is playing this game, so must many others' children, there's no harm here". They also probably assumed I was smart enough not to actually meet any of the people I spoke to online. I guess they were half right on that one. I've met people in real life after knowing them online, but only people I have grown close to or know will bring me no harm. If I actually told them I had met people from the internet, I still don't think they would worry too much. They know and expect me to take care of myself, I think.
