The movie also opens exactly a month after that date. The manga, however, is still going strong. I really hope Sunrise are just trolling again and the anime doesn't end.
That'll be worse for me than David Tennant dying in Doctor Who. DAMN YOU 2010.

Someone on MyAnimeList spotted that there has been a countdown on the titlecards in the recent episodes.

    Episode 190 (12)

    Episode 191 (11)

The countdown will finish on episode 201, which as previously mentioned is the last confirmed episode on the 25th of March.

Also, Shinpachi's diploma in the recent ending has the date 03-25-10 on it (平成二十二年三月二十五日), which again as previously mentioned is the date of the last confirmed episode.

There are also rumours that the regular anime will go on hiatus and a 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-sensei anime will take over (which would also explain the latest ending). There are six Ginpachi-sensei novels so plenty of material to take from.

Sunrise better be trolling. Gintama can't end!

Forgot to mention this earlier - Gintama was licensed in America by Sentai Filmworks two days ago, and is going to be distributed by Section32 films (which is what is left of ADV). The first DVD is due for release on the 27th of April, and the series isn't getting a dub. Thank god.

    No dub, good.

Anyway, what are the Ginpachi novels like?

Dunno, I can't read Japanese and they've never been translated into English. I just know they aren't written by Sorachi, so his usual wackyness might be absent. Although he did do the art so maybe he had some kind of input.

Awesome. Dvds will be cheaper aswell. Hopefully they dont cheap out on the presentation. And hopefully we get some sort of decent amount of episodes per dvds. couldnt be bothered with 4 ep jobs im guessing it wil be either 8,10 or 12 ep sets but we'll see. april aswell dont have to wait to long

Seeing as how ADV are pretty much handling the DVDs I don't think you'll have to worry about the quality or presentation. They've always been outstanding.

"The first is Gintama, a long-running historical/sci-fi comedy series from Sunrise, which debuts in a "Collection 1" DVD on 4/27/10 for $39.98. It runs 325 minutes."
