That'd be an awful ending. If it turns out that they're somehow on an island of 'gods' i'll be annoyed. After all the imagination of the show, just leaving it as "oh and yeah they're gods" seems an easy way out

No idea. It possibly will and they obviously wouldnt just end it as "they're on a god island", it'd be a little more complex. I'd just like it to be something completely unexpected

What I don't get is this.. why was the 'others' village and the big toe underwater in the flashsideways things? I really aren't getting that at all.. if 815 didn't crash then surely Ben etc would still be there? Which sort of leads me to believe that they aren't flash-sideways at all but what would have happened if that device had actually worked. But then again Miles said Juliet meant the device did work.. i'm confused Nothing new there when it comes to Lost I guess.

The flash sideways is showing what would have happened if the device worked.

But I want to know this:

If the device didn't work, how did they get back in the proper "current" time?

There's no rational explanation for the jump back to 2007. It's just for plot convenience.
