Following the announcement during the Microsoft press conference, Rockstar Games issued a press release confirming that GTAIV would be hitting both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 simultaneously in the fall of 2007. The brief announcement specifically confirms that Scotland-based Rockstar North, creators of the previous GTA titles, will be developing the game.

If it was going to be set in London, it would have been announced as GTA: London methinks. Plus, with stuff like the 7/7 bombings, I think it might be a bit too risque for Rockstar to give players the chance to blow the city up themselves (not to mention the fact that London in 3D has pretty much been done already in The Getaway).

I just have a feeling GTA: IV is something new.
Yeah, you may think, but if that was the case, Wouldn't GTA:III actually be called GTA: Liberty City, same with GTA 1 & 2. Plus, if I were the head of Rockstar and I had to name it, I wouldn't name it GTA: London because it gives it away, I'd rather have it as a surprise for me people who are going to buy it.

Although it has been done in the Getaway, Rockstar could make it any time, any year, so doesn't have to be the same year as the Getaway. Plus, like any GTA game, their has to be islands, so instead of islands, North, East, South & West London, instead.

Fair point, but I still don't think it will happen. Rockstar aren't that controversial - personally I don't think I'd be comfortable wreaking digital havok in my home city after what happened in July. Just like any New Yorker would probably feel uncomfortable if Rockstar were to release GTA: New York since the events of September 2001.

Sure, Liberty City is essentially New York in all but name, but that makes it acceptable. We could see a representation of London in the next GTA by all means, but I can't see it actually being London.
