    Death metal :eusa_droo

I like all them there genre's.

Kataklysm are a very good death metal band, along with Slayer, Arch Enemy, Pantera, sepultura, shadows fall ETC!

I'm addicted to Fear Factory - Linchpin at the moment though.

Punk, you cannot forget the classic originals like The clash, sex pistols, Ramones, then new age punk like *elder* Green day, CKY, The futureheads etc.

And less we forget the great screamo/emo stuff. FFAF, 36 Crazyfists, 40 below summer, silverstein, etc.

Can't stand new-style punk like Greenday and such, but good old "horror" punk like the Misfits and Balzac never go amiss, two of my favourites there. Oh and "punk-rock" is generally quite crap. Rock is a pretty wide area to roam in... but yeah most of it I like. Metal I'm not overly keen on, get bored of it easily. Death metal the same, but black metal I can listen to in small amounts. Cannot stand emo/hardcore music except for (as I think RedStratocas said) the old emo music like Jimmy Eat World, which is actually quite good. Also I listen to a lot of rap, but that wasn't on the list.

It isnt that Jimmy Eat World weren't as emotional, its just that they are a step below in their loudness of today's emo.

The problem that I REALLY see with today's definition of emo is the screaming. I know that so many people will disagree with this, but screaming gets old pretty fast. Most bands don't know when to use it and how much. Many songs that I have heard today have the singer puking his lungs out for every second. Using screaming that much sets screaming to the average emotion of all their songs, which means its hard to get any more. They should use it only at times when it means a lot.

I like to think of it like swearing. You know those people who swear all the time, basically every sentence? After being with them for a while, you don't even notice that they are swearing all the time, because the words have lost all meaning. But when you are with someone who is usually polite, and they swear, you really notice it.

Thats why I like AFI (Or at least Sing The Sorrow). They are a very emo band, no doubt about it, but they didnt scream at all times. He knows when to use his shouting voice, and how to use it.

I'd say Slayer were Thrash metal personally Smid! Pantera, mmm Dimebag ;D Yeah all them bands you named are pretty good.

Fear factory waheyyy One of my faves tbh and Linchpin is a great song but I was addicted to Resurrection! Although Linchpin is similar sounding.

Mm Punk, so much style and class derived from punk and it got ruined from the likes of new day green day ;/ Hardcore anarcho punk ftw.

Screamo/emo is equally good. To be honest there's too many good bands / generes!

A good Death Metal band are Children of Bodom - pure class!

I can't say I am, never really grew up around it, I know a few of my mates who listen to rock being skaters, I don't mind Foo Fighters and RHCP but thats about it.

My WMP shows "There You'll Be" by Faith Hill as a "country" song, and "Let's Push Things Forward" by The Streets as "folklore", so I don't think that's much to go by The defining point is the pitch of the singing mostly, black metal is the higher, screamier style whereas death metal goes more toward the grunts and burping noises.

Yes hence why CoF [Cradle of Filth] are black metal, despite Dani Filth sometimes going very deep he goes very high aswell. Well I have quite a few songs by CoB where it is relatively low but I see what you mean.
