I was wondering that too. I came up with my own idea of him being a 30 year old midget with a baby face. But he is a child, just with a boring attitude.

I deteste Malo! He's too rude, and demands money for his repairs later on in the game. I spent 1000 rupees on his first thingy and didn't know what it did!

Yeah I read about that, it's to help him open a shop in castle town (I think). You gotta pay him more money aswell if you want to buy what will be in his new shop. I think you have to pay 2000 rupees, but you can get it reduced to 200 by accepting the Goron's quest, then after you've done it go to pay him the money and it will be 200. Well, thats what I read anyway. Might not be true.
