Are the friends you want to go to the pub also 18?

You have to bare that in mind. It won't be much fun for the under 18s when the over 18s are drinking.

What about renting out somewhere and having an open bar? Although you'd have to consider asking people to chip in for the cost of it all.

I'm in New York for my 18th, even though I won't be able to have my first proper pint until I'm home I'm still looking forward to it.

No they are not, I'll be buying the drinks with the money they give me.
Also the pub I have in mind some of them have been there before and got served including myself.

I wouldn't mind going to New York, may suggest it to my parents.
