Where's Russia and how has it decided the world's most powerful countries in that?

I dont see how russia can really be excluded from the top 10 on the map.

In responce to economic power also, places like the united arab emerates etc have massive powers below the surface, as has been proved in the past, controling the oil suppy does have the very real potentional to bring giants like the US to its knees.

Well looking over different websites claiming to know the most powerful countries in the world, they all have different lists. So I doubt any of these are 100% accurate. This guy seems to have the clearest idea.

As other's have said, the British army still has modernised land, naval and air forced. Also Undertaker said, the British Empire is something to be proud of :p

From what I heard the French army is a bit of a joke, it hasn't been modernised and a lot of its helicopters for example don't fly anymore.
I think in Europe Britain is the only country that still has all the three army departments (land, naval and airforce) modernised, well-equipted and fully functional.
Of course they need that to defend these small useless islands they got all over the world

Britain is also using old planes and we weren't equipped at all for Iraq.

I don't think a country's power should be measured by its army alone. Economical power is more important in the long run. I think China is already more powerful than the US, maybe they could even bankrupt the United States if they want.
Atomic bombs don't help you much when your economy goes bankrupt, I think Ahmadinejad the Iranian president said so much recently, and gave the USSR (which collapsed in 1991) as example.
The only difference I see between China and the US is that China stays pretty much to its own region from a military point of view, and doesn't send its armies to attack other countries, even though they easily could.

The list I gave shows in all aspects how powerful each country is, America is in most of them so it clearly is the superpower of the world. China still economically isn't bigger than the United States because it's economey doesn't have as muhc affect on the rest of the worlds (see recent headlines with the Credit crunch)
