To others who post about random things being blocked there is normally a good reason behind it, this is that most ban lists are shared through a central program which many schools use this could be; RM, Viglen etc which could simply mean in another school a student has been on this site rather then doing their work and the class teacher has requested the Network manager to ban the site meaning you all suffer.

There is no real way to get around a filter other than jumping from a webproxy to another web proxy. Most of your Schools, Colleges IT Staff aren't idiots and will have software in place that leads to it being banned.
That's interesting stuff, last week I had a good playaround with the school systems, I managed to get into the Printers settings so in theory I could mess them all up or print to anywhere in the school (Including Headmasters office of course), and it would be virtually untraceable as I'd be doing it through an internet browser.

I got Firefox onto my account and I finally got it working on my account by using the Proxy settings the school uses like you mentioned. It doesn't work with out their proxy settings.

Open Notepad and create a file called hello.nfo and that's it. Open it up and look for Internet Explorer settings, use the Proxy Server it uses and the Port, put them into Firefox for all HTTP settings et viola.

Another fun thing to do at school if you have the time is get into the BIOS, try a few obvious passwords if not, I suggest using 'Backdoor passwords': http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/reference/biosp.htm

It takes ages to get the right one but once you're inside you can do whatever you like to the machine, a friend managed to Overclock the school computer lol.

Edit: For above, portable Firefox will work even though it's unauthorized, because it doesn't leave any trace or need to be installed on the network it's fine to run.

use PTE ~ Page title eraser, you cant see what the person is viewing by the toolbar @ have something educational open over it, switch to that if a teacher is watching you.

You maybe able to get into the printer settings however if they save the settings on exit, let alone spread across your network is extremely doubtful. Unless of course they are network printers with HTTP pages to which you've managed to change minor settings within.

As i said most / all state (Meaning Public instead of Public schools meaning Private... strange stuff) schools go through a local school proxy which normally has a minor level of filtering shortly followed by a central proxy which has a heavier level of filtering before it reaches the internet but this means whatever browser you use for as long as you use their proxy you will still have the same level of filtering.

The Bios Passwords are true in some cases and are safe guards for Technicians to be able to access the Bios after say a student has changed the Bios password or simply added one for boot.

I Warn you though that a popular tool used by Schools in the UK over the last few years is called Policy Central Enterprise which is created by company along the lines of forensic, This software takes screen shots of students desktops when it picks up keywords and other factors one of which is the word Proxy.

I don't say any of it to discourage you but just to let you know, I find it fun and interesting to see the different techniques employed to get around systems.
