I bought my iPod 3.0 firmware from iTunes. I would rather contribute to further development of iPhone OS than download it.
Never argue with an idiot, he'll drag you down to his level, and beat you with experience.

apple gets enough money from vastly overpricing their products, so i doubt a few people not paying £5.99 won't affect them too badly

I was waiting for someone to pipe up with that.

Apple have more than 1 department e.g; hardware dept., OS dept, iPhone/iPod firmware dept etc. Like in a school each dept will get a budget for new stuff etc and the 5.99 from a lot of people will help further the development.

yes but with the mass amount of profit apple makes from its 'hardware department' as you labelled it, it would be silly not to invest some of that profit into other areas of apples work, such as OS development, as i'm sure that apples 'os development department' does not solely rely on the collection of £5.99s it gets from people paying to update the software.

I bet 70% of that £5.99 goes into Jobs' pocket anyway or something.
