Just tell him. I've told girls before I like them when they've been really good mates of mine. One I ended up with for a year and a half (moved away and didn't want to go Scotland), one I ended up seeing and we're still good friends, one I've pulled a handful of time and she's still my best friend and one or two who I've just stayed friends with.
