Service is easy, if you have to go to some sort of training/meeting for your expeditions then just offer to help 'train' people doing bronze/ silver.

A few of my mates did "paper recycling" for their service. They just collected paper bins from about the school and emptied them into a larger bin once a week lol. That was for silver but I doubt it's any stricter with gold.

Its not much, like a tenner? I mean you've gotta buy your boots and your food for the expedition but apart from that its basically all free :S

Yes, but to me that makes me think it's not much of a an award. In my eyes an award is something completely free, that you get for something you've done, like my Diana award.

If a little bit of cash is all that's stopping you, I would recommend going for it. I really regret not doing D of E myself.
