I have left for now but may return in the future!
I think I read somewhere Barcelona were trying to cut back on expense - not sure if it's true. Madrid would be very likely and to be honest. If they put in a midfielder and an attacker (they have endless options) as well as some money I think Fergie would accept and it wouldn't be too bad for United either. You could argue that if they're not good enough for Madrid then United wouldn't want them but look at people like Van Der Vaart (think that's the spelling) and Sneijder and numerous others who have played much better once leaving Madrid and are seen as some of the best players in the world.
True, they will probably like you said give a midfielder and a striker + money depending on the players.I think I read somewhere Barcelona were trying to cut back on expense - not sure if it's true. Some players have got better especially Van Der Vaart who has been playing brilliant up to now at Tottenham.

Early days, I know- but a BBC journo has touted Diarra, Benzema + cash as a possibility.

I think United could potentially be better off with that. This season, without Rooney really they've had no issues scoring, it's been the defence. The defence is fine I reckon, it's the heart of midfield where they struggle. Diarra could see to that.
I think this would be a good deal too as Diarra is a good holding midfielder and Benzema is also a decent striker who fergie could possibly make a better player + the cash could be used for another player.

This why you know jack **** about football.
Rooney > Man City, done deal.
You don't say you're going to leave arguably the biggest club in the WORLD and the best contract offer available without having a club already lined up.
