Because it is a business. If you have the chance to make a little bit extra money, without all your 'customers' leaving, you will do whatever. It seems to make no sense. Why do they need to tax you for using a service which costs them nothing to manage? Seems unfair when you bought the credits to spend on furniture, not a silly feature that doesn't need it to run. It's like if Runescape started taxing people to use banks - but unlike Habbo, Runescape is properly run :/ It seems easier just to trade the old fashion way, but I guess people don't like interacting with others now :/
Obviously, but the excuse "it's a business" isn't really a good reasonLast time I checked Habbo was going down the toilet, so they're probably scraping at the sides hoping to rake in some more money.

larly it is working.
As I and others have said numerous times, 2010 was the most they have ever made from Habbo.

Ah, found some of the links.

The first one says they got $6 million from virtual services on Habbo.. in December alone. Obviously they have their costs too.
One would assume so yes, they had quite a few advertising campaigns going on last year as well as ways for users to spend money with other organisations getting involved like Electronic Arts, Dreamworks (How to Train Your Dragon) and many others. All ways for them to get people to chuck money at them, and it benefits these larger organisations as source of advertisement (go watch this film, go play that game etc etc.) The only reason they're still around is because they rely on other organisations for sponsorship and advertising. Habbo on its own would of died the moment it became rubbish - back when Version numbers meant something![]()

Without the tax, people with lots of furni could easily sell stuff to make a quick credit, with the old scheme credits seemed much more attractive, it was at this point that habbo realised this scheme was losing them money, there was an overpopulation of credits and they wanted to reduce the amount of credits around the hotel so people will buy more using actual money. It seems to make no sense. Main point: the faster credits are wasted, the more credits people will buy irl

Habbo is like the mother, like no you cant do that.Without the tax, people with lots of furni could easily sell stuff to make a quick credit, with the old scheme credits seemed much more attractive, it was at this point that habbo realised this scheme was losing them money, there was an overpopulation of credits and they wanted to reduce the amount of credits around the hotel so people will buy more using actual money.

What Plebings said made sense when people first joined habbo and earned a few coins say 10 they would invest in trading etc and people will never need to buy more coins but with tax it means more people have to buy coins and once they spend them the whole cycle repeats meaning more people buying coins meaning more money for Sulake.
Also you can't compare Runescape because in Runescape you earn money, meaning what you did with them wouldn't gain/lose them money

The Exchange was Sulakes biggest ever mistake.
Once made they couldn't remove it, but it was potentially hurting them. So chargin a tax to use the service, which is kind of a privilige in the first place makes sense.
In Runescape, you can pick coins off the floor. Not in Habbo.
