The reason why everything is going up such as water and especially foods (why interest rates are so high) is because the government keeps printing money. The same with applies petrol prices, petrol (crude oil) has actually fallen believe it or not but appears higher because the Bank of England/Federal Reserve keep printing money. A great deal of people like to blame the companies themselves when it's the government and the central banks.

How do you know that the UK Government is 'Printing money'?! If they really were the exchange rate would be awful! In fact the Euro is rising. It's currently 1.21 Euro to the pound!

The Quantative Easing programmes that the BoE have publically admitted to be engaged in, after all the only reason we're not in the same mess as the Euro is because we can devalue (and we have done).

Exchange rates have nothing to do with devaluation, all central banks are at it so it looks as though the currencies are still the same - but they're all being devalued (a race to the bottom).
